Villefranche sur Mer have good lungs

From 8h to 16th of September, Villefranche sur Mer will receive the Frediving World Team Championship. For the second time, freedivers from all over the world will confront themselves in our beautiful Villefranche sur Mer roads.

I want to welcome all these athletes in line with our environmentally responsible way of thinking.

Freediving is THE discipline where human join nature.

It’s a surpassing oneself and respect school.

Villefranche sur Mer is oriented towards sea, towards this extraordinary and delicate capital.

I’m fully committed, with my team, in making this place a protected and clean place. Thank to this frame of mind, the commune has published « Le guide du plaisancier », to learn good acts and behaviour.

Daily, researchers from all over the world work at the « Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche », one of the well known in the world, to supervise marine current, water quality, ecosystem and allow us to plan environmental actions.

Villefranche sur Mer, in partnership with Nice, made big construction work to connect sewage to wastewater treatment plant « Haliotis ». Villefranche sur Mer assosiations organize regularly sea depths cleaning. The « Conseil Général » has an operation called « Rade Propre » and the SIVOM organize cleaning and beach improvement.

We are all mobilized ! We have to protect our  Villefranche sur Mer roads.

I’m proud to welcome, for the second time, the freediving world championship which is going to introduce Villefranche sur Mer all over the world.

My Friend, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, and Eric Ciotti, president of « Conseil Général », support this event and receive it, for a part of the competition, in the sport equipments of Nice.

I congratulate Claude Chapuis and all the organisation team for their determination and professionalism.

I also want to pay tribute to my friend Loic Leferme, a champion who leaved us too early, who loved our road and who has contributed in freediving development.

On behalf of the municipality, and particularly of my assistant Pascal Hernandez, I wish all the freedivers good luck and a good competition.

I’m sure they are going to be inspired by the clear waters of our road.

Gérard Grosgogeat,

Mayor of Villefranche sur Mer
